The leader of a statewide group that represents police officers believes talk of “defunding” police is “reckless.”
Jim Palmer of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association says the idea seems to mean different things to different people. He believes officers are dealing with more types of situations than in the past, because funding for social services and mental health hasn’t been adequate.
Palmer is concerned cutting police spending would hurt programs that put police officers in specific neighborhoods to build trust with the community.
