The latest proposal for a new or expanded Appleton Public Library would keep it at the same downtown site.
Mayor Jake Woodford says it’s a way to remove hurdles from previous plans and move forward. He wants to make sure it’s a cost-effective and responsible, but also delivers a library that meets the city’s needs.
Woodford plans to hire a design firm next year to decide how much of the current building could be incorporated.
Two years ago, the city planned to partner with a developer on a mixed-use project at the site of the Soldiers Square parking ramp. Woodford’s announcement puts an end to that idea.
