I watched something this weekend that I haven’t seen in a very long time. In fact, I was even mad at myself for not being able to find something else to watch. With a million other options within all the streaming platforms, how is it possible to not find something else?! For some reason I settled for the NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
The NBA Slam Dunk Contest lost it’s magic. It’s not the same. It hasn’t been the same for a very long time. I’m sounding like a boomer right now. I know, but it’s true. Back in the day the Slam Dunk contest had players like Jordan, Wilkens, Carter, and Kobe ready to leave it all on the table to show how they can defy gravity. Not today. Now, nobody in the NBA wants to risk getting hurt. It makes sense. Nobody wants to end their season on a competition that means nothing at all.
That all changed this past weekend. Meet Mac McClung. Mac was a high school phenom. He’s only played in two NBA games in his career ( both games last year). He’s in the G-League and recently signed a 2-way contract the 76ers. Meaning he’ll play for the Sixers’ G-league team, but he can be called up to play with the big boys Sixers team when needed. If you google his name, you’ll see that he even won a few dunk contest outside the NBA and became an internet sensation.
When the NBA announced he was part of the Slam Dunk Contest, people on the internet were confused. No one knew what he can do.
Well, I think he saved the competition. He took what used to be a snore-fest and made it fun again. Check it out.
