I have fond memories as a kid, being dragged to the local K-Mart to go shopping with my mom in my tiny little Michigan town. It was very boring, BUT… K-Mart had an Icee machine. (Remember those red and blue slushies? There was a Coke one too, which was weirdly good.) Naturally, I made it known that I would not behave whatsoever if I did not get a slushie. So my mom would get me a slushie and all was good in my little world. I can almost taste it just thinking about it.
Fast forward to today and we have Big Cereal company, Kellogg’s announced that they’ve teamed up with Icee, the slushie company to make a cereal! Better yet: it will have a “cooling effect” like drinking a frozen slushie! WHAT!? The box has “Feel The Freeze” in big red bold letters.
The icee cereal will have 2 different color balls: red for cherry, and blue for blue raspberry. However, Kellogg’s added a little secret to this one… the cereal will have an “innovative ingredient that COOLS your mouth as you eat… imitating a sip of an Icee.”
That’s cute, but what in the actual huh?! The first thing I think of is a menthol-y like feeling, where you feel that little breezyish sensation. But Menthol usually has a minty flavor, so who knows? The next question I have is, “Do I actually need this?” It might be cool to try but I like cereal just as it is.
Gimmicky, for sure. It could be cool though. If I happen to run across it I’ll probably pick it up, but I’m not going out of my way to find it.
