Are you a Wisconsin student in 7th to 12th grade with a passion for music? If so, you can be a part of the 20th annual ROCKONSIN, a garage band competition showcasing only Wisconsin 7th-12th grade bands of all musical genres. This unique two-day competition will take place on June 28 & 29 from 12:15 pm to 2:45 pm at the Aurora Pavilion Stage during Summerfest.
ROCKONSIN will spotlight ten finalist bands in total, providing each one with a 20-minute opportunity to highlight their skills across the two-day event. Five bands will take the stage each day to perform.
In addition to their initial performances, both the winning and runner-up bands will earn the opportunity to return to Summerfest for a 45-minute performance on July 6th. They will also be awarded a professional recording session at Madison’s Blast House Studios, with the winner receiving 12 hours and the runner-up 8 hours of studio time. Furthermore, each of the top ten bands will receive two Shure microphones, and the winning band will be gifted a wireless vocal microphone system courtesy of Shure.
Entering ROCKONSIN is completely free, with no hidden costs. The competition is open to any Wisconsin 7th to 12th graders enrolled in any type of school for the 2023/2024 school year. Bands interested in participating must submit a video of them performing a cover or original song, and the top ten finalists will be selected from there.
This awesome competition is brought to life through the support of the Nicholas Family Foundation and various sponsor partners, all dedicated to creating platforms for young bands to be recognized and celebrated. These partners include: MAMA (Madison Area Music Association), Nicholas Family Foundation, Tilt Media, Shure, 104.3 The Fuse, Razor 94.7/104.7, WBAY TV 2, and Summerfest.
