Faith, family, and football – all were on display Saturday afternoon at the Resch Center, as the Green Bay Blizzard executed a near-perfect second half en route to a 67-38 drubbing of the (then) Eastern Conference leading Frisco Fighters. The victory, coupled with a Massachusetts loss to Northern Arizona, means the the top spot in the IFL’s East now belongs to Green Bay.
Tied 31-31 at the half, the Blizzard dominated the visiting Frisco Fighters in the final 30 minutes, posting a 36-7 advantage, largely on the strength of their league-leading defense, which secured a pair of picks, forced a Frisco fumble, and spent the majority of the half making life miserable for the Fighters’ offense. But not to be outshone, the Blizzard O converted on each of their 4th quarter opportunities, putting up 22 points in the final frame and leaving no doubt in a sport for which no lead is every truly safe.
Fans in attendance were able to savor the victory with a free concert in the north end zone from contemporary Christian singer/songwriter, Terrian.
Green Bay (6-2) heads to Iowa (2-6) on Friday, May 24th at 7:05pm Central, to battle the Barnstormers.
