It’s a Thanksgiving tradition unlike any other. Well, that’s not true, but it is a Thanksgiving tradition that is tough to beat. Well, I suppose that’s debatable, as well. Let me just go with this: it’s a Thanksgiving tradition (and it’s back for another iteration in 2024) – the Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving Special, a two-hour trek through SNL’s most memorable turkey day sketches.
I look forward to this special every year, and as I was marking my calendar, I started thinking about (and re-watching) my favorite skits, and then I thought to myself: “I should put these in a blog and post it.” But then I started talking to other people and we all started reminiscing and I realized that I had a lot more favorite skits than I thought. The length of this potential blog entry was growing exponentially, and I began to distance myself from the idea. It’s not that I’m afraid of the work. It’s not hard to assemble all of these video clips, it is merely time consuming, but as I set down that path, it dawned on me how unnecessary this was. My efforts would not provide a single shred of unique content to you, the reader/viewer. There would be nothing original about the post. What could I possibly offer that the producers of SNL would fail to deliver in the tightly edited best-of package that they have assembled for our viewing pleasure next week? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I have seen this special before, and I know with the certainty that the sun will rise in the east, that the 21 skits I have written down will all be featured.
As a result of this stream of consciousness that has now spilled onto this page, I will simply tell you that the special will air next Wednesday, November 27th, at 8pm Central Standard Time. However, I will post the original 10 skits of which I thought, for whatever that’s worth. These are not necessarily my top 10, but they are my most top-of-mind 10. Enjoy…
