Ticket: check. Popcorn: check. Uncomfortably large soda: check. Muzzle: yeah, you’d better check that box!
If you’re planning to attend an in-theater showing of the Broadway musical turned movie ‘Wicked,’ AMC Theaters is reminding guests to keep their mouths shut! “No talking. No texting. No singing. No wailing. No flirting. And absolutely no name-calling. Enjoy the magic of movies,” states the 30-second advisory voiceover, mixed with scenes from the film.
The stern warning is actually not a departure from the norm at AMC (or any theater, to be honest). Their “silence is golden” reminder has always preceded AMC showings. AMC spokesperson Ryan Noonan spoke of the “long-standing policy that prohibits disruptive behavior,” stating AMC’s pre-show spot “incorporates the themes of the film as a fun, engaging reminder to moviegoers to not disrupt the experience for those around them as they enjoy the show.”
If you just don’t think you can control your vocal chords, AMC is planning to introduce interactive showings to roughly 1,000 North American cinemas, starting on Dec. 25. Check you local listings next month, but until then…SHHHHHH!
