APPLETON, Wis–Appleton Police release a report on their investigation into former Xavier High School Principal Mike Mauthe. Our T-V partner Action Two News secured the report through an open records request.
It shows that an original complaint was filed with the Green Bay Catholic Diocese last fall, after Mauthe accepted a job offer at Saint Mary Catholic High School and the complainant was concerned about rumors of his behavior. That investigation found that Mauthe had exchanged hundreds of emails and texts with a female student at Xavier in the spring of 2024.
The girl’s mother had gone to Diocese Superintendent Becky Walker demanding the contact stop, but found out Mauthe and her daughter were working on ways around that. Walker contacted Appleton Police in November to see if Mauthe’s behavior was criminal in nature.
When detectives questioned the girl, she told them that Mauthe had sent similar messages to a friend of hers as well. The police reports find that there was never any sexual contact between Mauthe and the students involved, and that criminal charges were not warranted.
