Following the huge success of her role in the “Barbie” movie, Margot Robbie is taking on another exciting project. This time, she will be turning the classic, highly competitive, never-ending board game, “Monopoly” into a film. Will the movie be as long as the game takes to finish? I guess we’ll find out.
According to Today, Robbie’’s production company LuckyChap, which she runs with her husband Tom Ackerly and producer Josey McNamara, is partnering with Lionsgate and Hasbro to bring the game to life on the big screen.
LuckyChap released this statement about the movie, per Today: “Monopoly is a top property—pun fully intended. Like all of the best IP, this game has resonated worldwide for generations, and we are so excited to bring this game to life alongside the wonderful teams involved at Lionsgate and Hasbro.”
A lot of the details surrounding the movie haven’t been released yet, but it sounds like those who are in the know have high hopes for it. Chairman of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Adam Fogelson shared his excitement about the film saying, “We are tremendously excited to be working with the entire LuckyChap team on what we all believe can be their next blockbuster.”
On top of this “Monopoly” announcement, Robbie and her team at LuckyChap also announced that they are creating a movie based on the video game “The Sims.” If you don’t know what “The Sims” is, I suggest you go play it right now.
Both “Monopoly” and “The Sims” have been fan favorites for years, so it will be super intriguing to see what they come up with for the film adaptations. Per Today, since its debut in 1935, Monopoly has sold nearly half a billion copies and is available in over 100 countries with many different versions.
Exciting stuff!
