It seems like just yesterday Taylor Swift announced her next album, The Tortured Poets Department during her acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2024 Grammys. Well, IT’S HERE PEOPLE. And it’s a DOUBLE ALBUM. With 31 new tracks in total. 🤯
Taylor announced the release of her 11th studio album with a post to social media, addressing the themes of heartbreak and healing throughout the project.
“The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time — one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure,” Swift wrote. “This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.”
“This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it,” she continued. “And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.“
The album was released overnight at 12am, and just two hours later she surprise-released a 15-track expansion of the album which she named, The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology. “The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you,” she wrote on social media. “So here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours. 🤍”
The first song on the album is a collaboration with Post Malone titled “Fortnight”. She also featured Florence + The Machine on the mid-album track, “Florida!!!”
So, what we all are really wondering is, who are the songs about??
Well, according to The Cut, at her first Tokyo Eras tour performance, she explained the timeline of writing TTPD. “I’ve been working on Tortured Poets since right after I turned in Midnights,” she said. “You turn in an album months in advance so you can make vinyls… so I started working on it immediately after that, and I’ve been working on it for about two years. I kept working on it throughout the U.S. tour, and when it was perfect, in my opinion, when it was good enough for you, I finished it.”
This means that the album was in the works from her breakup with Joe Alwyn to her meeting Travis Kelce and includes everything in between. Songs titled “So Long, London,” and “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart,” have the heartbreak that Joe caused Taylor written all over them.
OH, and we can’t not address this one. There’s a song titled “thanK you alMee”. K.I.M. as in Kim Kardashian?? Yep. Diving into the lyrics, it really does get more and more clear that this is a diss track on Kim, and the Swifties are living for it.
thanK you aIMee is DERANGED im crying holy shit, the way she literally said "and so i changed your name and any real defining clues" BUT THE DEFINING CLUES ARE LITERALLY THE CAPITAL LETTERS IN THE TITLE im laughing so hard that's actually so funny

“And so I changed your name, and any real defining clues. And one day, your kid comes home singin’ a song that only us two is gonna know is about you.”
Yikesss. All I gotta say is, I’m glad my name isn’t Kim.
The album is packed full of amazing, crazy, emotional, intense lyrics that you’ll have to experience firsthand to truly appreciate.
