A study shows Wisconsin businesses may not face a payroll tax increase, until at least early 2022.
Wisconsin Policy Forum Researcher Jason Stein says the state’s fund for unemployment benefits was in pretty good shape before the pandemic. Nearly $2 billion was in it.
He says normally, businesses pay into the fund for every worker they lay off, but this was because of a public health crisis.
As of June 8th, the state’s fund was down more than $300 million, but it still had about $1.6 billion in it.
